Left Hook, a political media, strategy and public affairs firm, is hiring a Director, Public Affairs to join its growing public affairs practice. The Director will support clients with communications strategy and media relations support but also assist Left Hook partners on business development efforts.

Ideal candidates are experienced in strategic communications, particularly with pitching stories and research, and have strong relationships with beltway media, including with broadcast outlets. This position is remote.

Responsibilities include:

+ Developing and implementing strategic communications plans and programs for clients

+ Pitching stories, booking interviews, and producing written materials such as releases and op-eds to help clients achieve their goals

+ Preparing clients for media interviews; developing talking points and message narratives

+ Partnering with content production and buying teams to support clients and their paid media programs

+ Drafting proposals and presentations for business development purposes

The ideal candidate will have:

+ Five to seven years of strategic communications experience, ideally in a political campaign, agency or government setting

+ Excellent writing and communications skills with an ability to multi-task and balance competing timelines

+ An understanding of today’s media landscape and the skills to help clients navigate it, particularly with an eye toward creativity that will help clients draw attention to their work

+ Strong relationships with beltway media, particularly with broadcast outlets

+ An entrepreneurial spirit with an eye towards identifying and cultivating new business opportunities
